band1sevendust.jpg

This is Sevendust. These 5 bad boys outta Atlanta are what all my ranting and raving is about. They have been my favorite band ever since i picked up their first album in 1997 or so. Their music is incredible, in your face metal with a soulful euphoric feel to it complements of Lajon's outstanding voice. They have been labeled before as 'just another metal band', but see them once in concert and you will feel the adrenaline rush pumping out of the speakers. They are really a site to see. They really get the crowd moving and the pit roaring. As a small band not getting too much acclaim early on in their career, they have come a long way and are the most dedicated road warriors out there, playin a few hundred shows a year. I wish them the best with the new album, Animosity, as i have already found it to be one of my favorite albums ever. I suggest you pick it up and see the heavy yet soulful atmosphere it creates. Thank you Sevendust for creating the music that has lead me through hard times with my head up high, and influence my life in so many ways that i cannot list them all.

LAJON WITHERSPOON - LEAD VOCALS

Lajon is hands down the most incredible vocalist i have ever heard. His vocal range is incredible as it goes from deep and hard screaming to a soulful melody. Just seeing him in concert is enough to become entranced in the energy that he puts out as he sings. Lajon, although it is a team effort, to me seems to be the star of the show. He gives such a commanding presence on stage, and is always one to impress. Before he joined SEVENDUST, he had been in a band called Body and Soul, but he got persuaded by Morgan and Vinnie to make some music with a little more harder edge. He recently had a baby girl named Maya Diane with his girlfriend Kristy.

MORGAN ROSE - DRUMS, VOCALS

Morgan is really a site to see. Even though it is hard to see him sometimes because he is in back of that big drum set, you can see the effort that he puts in his drumming. The sweat pours off his head as he screams his backup vocals and bangs his drums like theres no tomorrow. Morgan was in a band with Vinnie before SEVENDUST called Snake Nation. He is married to Rayna (Coal Chamber) Rose, and has a daughter named Kalya Moray.

VINCENT HORNSBY - BASS GUITAR

Vinnie seems to me to be the comedian of the band, or at least the one who seems to be having the most fun. On stage he always likes to interact with fans and he really seems to like what he is doing on stage. His stage presence just puts you in a good mood because he is always in a good mood. What really helps is that he is good at what he does, and he seems to do it so easily. He was in a band with good friend Morgan called Snake Nation, which was managed by Jay Jay French, guitarist of Twisted Sister. Vinnie was the one who came up with the new name of the band, SEVENDUST, when he found a can of pesticide in his grandmothers house, called Sevindust.

JOHN CONNOLLY - GUITAR

John Connolly brings his powerful guitaring skills to complement the heavy sound that SEVENDUST puts out. He is big on guitar solos, and loves to jump around on stage with Vinnie. His guitar mixes very well with fellow guitarist Clint, which is shown by the powerful riffs that he plays. John used to be in a band by the name of Piece Dogs, where he played the drums, but was approached by Vinnie and Morgan to play guitar in the first installment of SEVENDUST, called Rumblefish. John has many music influences which include such heavy and revolutionary acts like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Metallica.

CLINT LOWERY - GUITAR,  VOCALS

Clint seems to be the reserved silent one of tbe group. It is hard to realize this however, because he sings a lot of vocals and his guitar is anything but quiet. Clint puts his heart and his soul in his guitar playing, as can be seen by his dedication and hard work on stage. He also works very well with mixing guitar parts with John. Clint also does a lot of lyric writing for SEVENDUST, along with Lajon and Morgan for the most part. Clint just wrote a whole song by himself, 'X-MAS DAY' on Animosity, which shows his talent. He was the latecomer of SEVENDUST, joining the band after guitarist Lee Banks left the band before the band actually became SEVENDUST. Clint comes from a very musical family, as his inspirations are his mother and father, both musicians. His brother is also a known musician, as he used to play in Stuck Mojo and now resides in the band Stereomud.

Album Reviews

sevendust22.jpg

This is where it began for SEVENDUST. This album is my alltime favorite album because of the intensity it starts off with and keeps with the whole album. Every song kicks ass. Black is a song about racism as well as just plain prejudice. Bitch is about a certain someone who has just given you a hard time and you want them out of your life. Prayer is a beautiful song Lajon wrote for his brother reflecting on the time they used to spend together in their youth. Some of the other songs like Terminator, Born to Die, and Too Close to Hate have very powerful lyrics as well. These songs bring images of revenge, mistrust, sorrow for the hate that others possess. Wired is a trip through the mind of an addict. My Ruin was the first song released by Sevendust, under the name 'Crawlspace' on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. Overall I would have to give this album a '10'.

sevendust1.jpg

Home was produced in Massachusetts at a time when Sevendust needed some rest. They had been promoting the self titled album non stop for almost two years. Home gave Sevendust a chance to increase their trademark almagalmation of soulful vocals and heavy instruments. Overall the album is a little weaker than the first in my opinion, but it definately shows a growth of talent. Denial is a song about just that, and the shadiness of people. Headtrip is about the overinflated egos some of us have that in the end destroy us. Waffle is about how we wait for an inspiration to change us. Licking Cream is a beautiful song about how sometimes there is someone that we cannot get out of our heads, that someone who could make us do anything for them. Rumblefish is remeniscent of Sevendust's earliest days, as it is the first name the band had. Bender adds Chino of the Deftones to take his part on the lyrics, and seems to be about just that... a bender. Feel So is a song about confusion and misunderstandings. Crumbled is a song about how we all once and a while break down, but we must get back up and keep on going. Overall I would give it a '7'.

Animosity, Sevendust's Junior effort, blew me away the first time i heard it. The cd is incredible. My favorite is still the self titled, but it is a close race. They really increased their talents with this album, being a little softer than the previous two, but still kicking major ass. The lyrics are outstanding, with every song possessing an intense amount of feeling. This album really shows that Sevendust has come full circle and found out who they are and what they do. They have perfected the mix of etherial vocals and piercing metal sounds. Praise is a song about someones denial to accept what is around them. Trust is an apology of sorts, about someone leaving for some aweful thing done. Xmas day is a beautiful song about love lost and the lust of wanting it back. Crucified is about the betrayal of someone and the hate that they now live with because of it. Shine and Beautiful are songs of the need of some inspiration, something beautiful to come along and take you. Live Again is the most powerful song on the album, a self realization of what your life is, and to get up and make the most of it. Finally, Angel's Son is also on the album, a new more acoustic version than the one of Strait Up, and this song touches many as a beautiful requiem for a great man, James Lynn Strait of Snot. I advise you to see the Video for it, it made me really want to know this guy, by seeing all the people who loved him. Overall this album would get a '9', but very close to a '10'.
